Water flossing is an excellent alternative to traditional string flossing for anybody who cannot seem to master the technique or find it tedious.
While brushing your teeth using a toothbrush helps get rid of a significant amount of tartar in your mouth, there are always remnants between teeth, especially in hard-to-reach areas at the back of your mouth. That’s where flossing steps in to save the day. Flossing using a string or water flosser gets rid of food debris stuck in the crevices of teeth and helps prevent cavities and gum disease.
When food particles find themselves between teeth, they stew in the mouth resulting in plaque. The plaque then emits acids that damage the enamel or the outermost covering of teeth. The acids so produced can slowly drill into the teeth to form cavities and lead to gingivitis - which can later lead to gum disease if neglected.
Flossing reaches all nooks and crannies of teeth, making sure that all the areas that couldn’t be reached by the toothbrush are all cleaned up.
If you are not comfortable with string flossing or are not sure if you are getting it right, go ahead and give water flossing a shot. These are also very beneficial for individuals who don’t have very straight teeth and cannot use a string to clean between teeth. Braces and retainers are generally tough to clean, so water flossers help a great deal in such circumstances. All in all, water flossing is for anybody who is not comfortable with traditional flossing and is looking for an alternative.
A water flosser is basically a handheld instrument that shoots a stream of water at the teeth with enough pressure to clean the area at which it is aimed. You can fill the reservoir of the device with lukewarm water and use it once every day after brushing your teeth. The appliance is simple to use and gets the job done in a matter of minutes.
Try your hand at water flossing to make sure you prevent oral issues like gum disease and cavities.
